Amish Hamburger Steak Bake
Ingredients
• 1 lb ground beef
• 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
• 1 egg
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1/4 tsp garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp onion powder
• 1 medium onion, sliced
• 2 cups frozen or fresh mixed vegetables (optional: peas, carrots, green beans)
• 2 cups mashed potatoes (or use instant)
• 2 tbsp butter
• 1 cup beef broth
• 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish.

In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Form into small patties and place in the baking dish.

Layer onions and vegetables around and between the patties.

In a small saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook 1 minute. Slowly add beef broth, whisking until thickened into a smooth gravy. Pour over patties and vegetables.

Spread mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

Bake 25–30 minutes until cheese is melted and golden, and patties are cooked through.
