Description

Classic Salisbury Steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  2. Shape into 4 oval patties.

  3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add sliced onion and cook until soft.

  5. Sprinkle flour over onions, stir, then slowly add beef broth.

  6. Add Worcestershire, ketchup, salt & pepper. Stir until smooth.

  7. Return patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes until fully cooked and gravy thickens.

  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.
