Description

Crock Pot Smothered Steak and Onions

Ingredients:

  • 4 beef cube steaks (about 1/2–3/4 inch thick)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for searing)

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried thyme

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for thickening)

  • Optional garnish: Fresh parsley

Instructions:

  1. Season and sear the steaks:
Season both sides of cube steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks for 1–2 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to the Crock Pot.

  2. Prepare the onions and gravy:
Spread sliced onions over the steaks. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and flour until smooth.

  3. Pour over the steaks:
Pour the beef broth mixture evenly over the steaks and onions.

  4. Cook:
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until steaks are tender and onions are soft.

  5. Optional thickening:
If the gravy is too thin, remove 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid, mix with 1 teaspoon cornstarch, and stir back into the Crock Pot. Let cook for 10 more minutes to thicken.

  6. Serve:
Spoon the onion gravy over the steaks and garnish with fresh parsley.
