Garlic Mushroom Toast

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or unsalted butter

  • 1 garlic clove, minced or crushed

  • 4-5 chestnut or cremini mushrooms, roughly sliced

  • 1 teaspoon dried sage or fresh thyme (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • 4 slices of crusty bread (such as sourdough or rustic bread)

  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese or shredded mozzarella for topping

  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare mushrooms: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. Cook mushrooms: Add sliced mushrooms and dried sage or thyme. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes until mushrooms are golden and tender.

  3. Season: Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.

  4. Toast bread: While mushrooms cook, toast bread slices until golden and crisp.

  5. Assemble toast: Spoon the garlic mushroom mixture evenly over the toasted bread. Optionally, sprinkle grated Parmesan or mozzarella on top and broil for 1-2 minutes for melty cheese.
