Instructions
-
Form the patties:
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until just combined.
Shape into 4 thick patties. -
Cook the patties:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy). -
Make the onion gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add onions and sauté for 5–6 minutes until golden and soft.
Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in beef broth, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened.
Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste. -
Smother the steaks:
Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over the top, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes until fully cooked through and flavors meld. -
Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
