Description

Steak and Cheese Sub

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or ribeye, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 4 sub rolls or hoagie rolls

  • 4–6 slices provolone or American cheese

  • Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, pickled peppers, mayonnaise, or mustard

Instructions

1. Cook the Steak and Veggies

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the onion and bell pepper, sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.

  3. Season the steak slices with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  4. Add the steak to the skillet and cook 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and just cooked through.

  5. Combine steak and veggies, then remove from heat.

2. Assemble the Subs

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, leaving a hinge.

  3. Layer steak and veggies evenly inside each roll.

  4. Top with cheese slices.

3. Melt the Cheese

  • Place the assembled subs on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • For extra toasty tops, broil for 1–2 minutes — watch carefully.

4. Serve

  • Serve hot, optionally with ketchup, mustard, or hot sauce.

  • Pair with fries, onion rings, or a pickle spear for the full classic sub experience.
