Round Steak

Description

Simple & Tender Smothered Round Steak

This method uses a slow cooker or a low oven to make the tough steak incredibly tender. It’s a “set it and forget it” kind of meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 1.5 lbs round steak

  • 1 packet (0.87 oz) of dry brown gravy mix (or onion gravy mix)

  • 1 packet (0.87 oz) of dry onion soup mix

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • 1 cup water or beef broth

  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Steak: Pat the round steak dry with a paper towel. You can leave it whole or cut it into a few smaller pieces. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
*(Optional for more flavor: Quickly brown the steak in a hot skillet with a little oil for 2-3 minutes per side.)*

  2. Combine Ingredients: In a slow cooker (Crock-Pot), whisk together the gravy mix, onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and water until smooth.

  3. Cook: Place the seasoned round steak into the slow cooker and spoon the sauce over the top to cover it.

    • Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours. The steak is done when it is fall-apart tender.

  4. Serve: The sauce will have created a rich, delicious gravy. Serve the tender steak and gravy over:

    • Mashed potatoes (classic choice!)

    • Egg noodles

    • White rice
