Description

Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients

Meatballs
• 1 lb ground beef
• 1/2 lb ground pork
• 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
• 1 egg
• 1/4 cup onion, very finely minced
• 1/4 cup milk
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1/4 tsp nutmeg
• 1/4 tsp allspice

Gravy
• 4 tbsp butter
• 1/4 cup flour
• 2 cups beef broth
• 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Fresh parsley for garnish

Optional: a spoonful of lingonberry jam on the side if you want to feel fancy like IKEA

Instructions

  1. Mix all meatball ingredients gently until combined. Roll into small 1-inch balls.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to form a light brown roux.

  4. Slowly pour in beef broth while whisking, then the cream. Stir in Worcestershire sauce.

  5. Simmer a couple minutes until the gravy thickens, then return the meatballs to the pan.

  6. Cook on low 8–10 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce clings to them beautifully.

  7. Taste, adjust seasoning, and shower with parsley.
